S-adenosylmethionine (SAM)

Overview

Methionine adenosyltransferase uses methionine and ATP to form SAM. PEMT and GAMT use its methyl group in phosphatidylcholine and creatine synthesis [1,2].

Dietary Context

Dietary methionine can contribute to endogenous SAM supply. Methyl-donor availability, competing reactions, tissue compartmentation and feedback remain distinct from a recommendation to consume SAM or a claim of benefit above adequacy [1,2].

Foods

No verified direct food-content relationships are recorded. See upstream dietary pathways separately.

Recipes

No recipes are linked through verified direct-content food relationships. Upstream dietary pathways are shown separately.

Biological Regulatory Systems

Each receiving PM requires an independent admission; this conversion node does not propagate every one-carbon nutrient to every methylation reaction.
